Upgraded Nigerian Driver’s Licence Is Now Recognised in Europe, the U.S.A.

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) revealed on February 20, 2014, Thursday that the renewed Nigerian driver’s licence would now be recognised in the U.S.A. and in Europe.

The Lagos Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Chidi Nkwonta, confirmed that three states in the U.S., i.e. Maryland, Washington DC and California and seven countries in Europe, i.e. Germany, Turkey, Switzerland, Poland, Spain, Austria and Sweden would now accept the licence.
“Maryland accepts Nigerian driver’s licence provided it verifies that it is genuine, Washington accepts Nigerian driver’s licence, and California too.
“We have seven countries already in Europe that accept our driver’s licence, and we are working on other countries in Europe,” the Commander said.
Mr. Chidi Nkwonta assured that the FRSC would do its best to ensure that all states in the U.S. would recognise Nigerian driver’s licenses.
He further added that the data base and identity of the holder of the licence could be accessed in the above-mentioned countries, and that genuineness of the licence could be ascertained.
The Commander further noted that the licence contained several security features that would make it difficult to produce fake copies.
