Following his demise on 1st of September 2015 at 79, more details about the life and family of Nigerian business tycoon, Antonio Deinde Fernandez has come to the open.
He was one of Africa’s richest men and was always referred to as his excellency, Oluwo Antonio Deinde Fernandez, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Permanent Representative and was from the popular Fernandez family of Lagos that originated from Brazil.
He was a foremost diplomat but had interests in diamond and gold. He was said to have direct contacts to the most powerful world leaders, business executives and entrepreneurs e.g Nelson Mandela, George Bush etc.
The business magnate had his own Island, a mansion in Larchmont, NY, a house in Brussels, a palace in Nigeria and a French hunting château that once belonged to Napoleon Bonaparte.
He owned six private jets and was said to be worth about $8.7 billion.
He was formerly married to Barbara, an American woman for 25 years but they divorced in 1989 and Aduke Fernandez, whom he divorced in July 2003 following a £ 300m divorce suit in Scotland filled on July 1, 2003. He was asked by Aduke through her counsel, Charles Macnair QC, to compel Chief Fernandez to pay her a lump sum of £ 5m and an allowance of £75,000 monthly for 3 years but the case was dismissed by the court.
Barbara and Aduke died in 2013 within the space of three months. Aduke bore a girl, Abimbola for him. He married Halima, a beautiful lady from Kano State in 2003. He was alsoROMANTICALLY linked with the Erelu of Lagos, Abiola Dosumu who had a daughter for him, Antoinette Oyinkansola but they fell apart.
