The Managing Director of Nigerian Breweries Limited, Mr. Festus Odimegwu and former presidential candidate, Prof. Pat Utomi, are among the ministerial nominees that have been screened by the Department of State Service, Punch is reporting authoritatively.
Those already said to have been screened as nominees for President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet also include a former Governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola; and a Lagos-lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN).
Also on the list are a former Chief of Army, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazu (retd.); an ex-chief executive of the Federal Inland Revenue, Mrs. Ifueko Omoigui-Okaru; a former finance commissioner in Lagos State, Mr. Wale Edun; and a former National Legal Adviser to the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, Abubakar Malami (SAN).
Screening of the nominees had been concluded on Friday and some of the nominees had appeared before the DSS.
None of the names on the list however confirmed that they had been screened when our correspondents contacted them on Sunday.

President Buhari Submits Names Of 40 Ministerial Nominees To DSS, DMI, NIA for Screening (See List)

President Muhammadu Buhari is said to have submitted about 40 names to the Department of State Services (DSS), the Department of Military Intelligence (DMI), the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and other security agencies for screening ahead of his much-awaited ministerial appointments.
Daily Post reports that the names were submitted about a week ago.

Nigerian governors have rejected the death penalty for looters..The governors, who spoke with The PUNCH, on Thursday, out rightly rejected the suggestion that looters of the nation’s resources be sentenced to death.

This comes as Organised labour- the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress-at the beginning of the week said looters should be given the death sentence in order to serve as deterrence to others.

Labour said it was only by killing looters that the anti-corruption crusade being championed by President Muhammadu Buhari could succeed.

But most governors, who reacted to the labour suggestion on Thursday, said the death sentence would be too harsh.

Fragments of the world's oldest Koran, found in Birmingham last month, may predate the Prophet Muhammad and could even rewrite the early history of Islam, according to scholars.
The pages, thought to be between 1,448 and 1,371 years old, were discovered bound within the pages of another Koran from the late seventh century at the library of the University of Birmingham.
Written in ink in an early form of Arabic script on parchment made from animal skin, the pages contain parts of the Suras, or chapters, 18 to 20, which may have been written by someone who actually knew the Prophet Muhammad - founder of the Islamic faith.
