Judging
by the comments and general reaction to the law, the majority of
Nigerians approved it, despite the criticism coming from the United
States of American and European countries.
We suggest you to
leave aside the emotions for a moment and take a look at all these
homosexual black people famous all over the world for their talents and
successful career.
Talented sportsmen, journalists, singers,
actors (actresses), writers… They are all so different, but have one
thing in common – they are all openly gay.
Queen Latifah (Dana Elaine Owens)
This
American stars has proved to be a successful singer, songwriter,
comedienne, show hostess and producer. Throughout the period of her
skyrocketing career Queen Latifah’s has been recognized by prestigious
movie and music awards (like Golden Glove and Grammy, among others).
Her
sexual preferences had been kept secret until 2012, when during the
Long Beach Pride show the world renowned celebrity came out as lesbian
saying to the LGBT (lesbial, gay, bisexual and transgender) community:
“Y’all my peeps (people). I love you!”
Frank Ocean (Christopher Breaux)
This
young man started his career as a ghostwriter for Brandy, Justin Bieber
and John Legend. Soon he decided to try his luck as a singer and
released the debut song mixtape Nostalgia, Ultra, which was
critically acclaimed. Starting from this point every new piece of music
he introduced to the audience has been warmly accepted.
Frank
Ocean is considered the first major R&B artist to have come out as
gay. He made the courageous announcement in 2012, and later confessed: “I
knew that my star was rising, and I knew that if I waited I would
always have somebody that I respected be able to encourage me to wait
longer, to not say it till who knows when.”
Michael Sam
Successful
US football defensive end, who became the first openly homosexual
player to have been drafted to National Football League (NFL).
These were his words:
"I'm not afraid to tell the world who I am. I'm Michael Sam: I'm a college graduate. I'm African-American, and I'm gay."
Jason Collins
The professional American basketball center, currently playing for the Brooklyn Nets (NBA League).
Collins will forever remain in the historical records, as he became the first openly gay athlete in US professional sport.
In April 2014 Time Magazine listed him in “100 Most Influential People in the World”.
Azealia Banks
This
22-year-old rapper and songwriter was signed to XL Recordings when she
was only 17. Her career went up in the world in 2011 after the release
of her debut singe "212", which became known all over America and
Europe. You might have heard it, too.
Azealia characterized herself as a bisexual in her interview to the NY Times. She was quoted saying: “I’m not trying to be, like, the bisexual, lesbian rapper. I don’t live on other people’s terms.”
Don Lemon
An honoured journalist, who was employed by such respected editions and TV stations as NBC News, CNN, WNYW, WCAU and others.
When
the CNN anchor revealed in 2011 through his memoir book that he is
homosexual, Lemon was globally commended for being one of few openly gay
black celebrities. The book also describes homophobia and sexual abuse
he suffered in the childhood.
Lee Daniels
The
renowned US actor, producer and filmmaker. His movie “Monster’s Ball”
brought the first Oscar to the Hollywood star Halle Berry. Meanwhile
Daniel got his own “Best Director” nomination by the Academy for the
novel-based film “Precious”.
Daniels, who realized his nature
in the childhood, said in one of the interview that his father was
violent and physically abusive towards him and tried "to beat it [being gay] out of me."
Robin Roberts
The
53-year-old successful American TV broadcaster, was forced to leave the
"Good Morning America" show in 2012 to get a bone marrow transplant,
which saved her life.
After the life trial Roberts took to
Facebook to thank those, who supported her, including her… girlfriend
(it actually became the post of confession):
“I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber…” she wrote.
RuPaul (RuPaul Andre Charles)
He came out as gay at the age of 12 and has never denied his preferences since.
Wanda Sykes
Emmy Award winning writer, also a comedienne and actress. Sykes hosted her own talk-show on Fox channel.
She
had been married to a man named Dave Hill for 7 years (1991-1998),
however in 2008 Sykes opened up on her orientation during Las Vegas
rally against ban of new marriages of same-sex couples in California.
