Activision Blizzard Buys Candy Crush Game Maker King Digital For $5.9 Billion

Sometime in April this year, I did a story on how much the game Candy Crush was making, so I'm not even surprised that the company behind the game has been bought for a staggering sum of $5.9 billion.
The company King Digital Entertainment was acquired by Call of Duty publisher Activision Blizzard  in a deal worth $5.9 billion.
Describing the deal, King CEO Riccardo Zacconi said that his company had built one of the largest networks of players on Facebook and on mobile devices, noting that King's games had 474 million monthly active users in the third quarter of 2015.

Activision already owns one of the biggest gaming franchises in Call of Duty, in addition to Destiny and huge properties such as World of WarCraft and StarCraft as a result of its merger with Blizzard in 2008. The company's gaming portfolio grows even bigger with the addition of the biggest name in social gaming, but there's no guarantee King will be able to keep up its success forever.

Financial experts are saying that King Digital may follow other social game companies in becoming one-hit wonders, but none the less, the company has already raked in enough profits to diversify and continues to still rake in profits. For the founders of King Digital, its a win win, as they have made good money from the company so far, and relieved themselves of future liability, should the predictions of experts come to pass.
