Major-General (rtd) Patrick Aziza Died At 66

The first military Governor of Kebbi State, after its separation from Sokoto, Major-General (rtd) Patrick Aziza, passed away in Abuja on August 16, 2014, Saturday, around 3.45am.
The development is especially painful for Deltans and Urhobo nation, as Aziza occupied the post of the President General of the Urhobo Progress Union. He has reportedly lost his battle with cancer.
Groups of Aziza’s kinsmen were seen wailing and crying: “Our iroko has fallen.”

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Dr. Steve Oru, was one of the first to express his condolences, saying that the Urhobo nation had lost a true son and a true general.
Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo, representing Delta Central at the National Assembly, described Aziza’s death as tragic and sad.
“He served Nigeria very well. After all that, he came home to serve his people. He was a true servant of the people,” the senator added.
Patrick Aziza was born in Okpe, Delta, on December 23, 1947.
He was appointed the first military administrator of Kebbi State (August 1991 – January 1992) during General Ibrahim Babangida’s regime.

Aziza supported the coup in which General Sani Abacha took power, and even held position of the Minister of Communications of his military government.
The late general took another ministerial post (Minister of Commerce and Tourism) during the transitional regime of General Abdulsalami Abubakar (June 1998 – May 1999).
Aziza worked with the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan as National Security Adviser. However, due to rise of Boko Haram attacks and some disagreements Jonathan approved removal of the general in June 2012.
Rest in peace.
