Banned Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, 80, has sold the NBA
team to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer for a whopping $2 billion.
ESPN reports that the agreement was signed Thursday and was sent
straight to the NBA for final approval. Ballmer outbid former NBA star
Grant Hill, who offered $1 billion, and a group of wealthy business
people that included Oprah Winfrey. Ballmer's bid has also set a record
price for an NBA team.
Clippers owner Donald Sterling was banned from the NBA for life by
league commissioner Adam Silver after recordings of him making racist
comments were made public. He authorized his wife Shelly to negotiate a
sale of the team. Talk about balling big - Donald Sterling bought the
Clippers in 1981 for $12.5M ($32.6M in today’s USD). But was forced to
sell his team.... for $2Billion! He got a 2.5 million dollar fine and a
$2billion payout, so the question is - Who is the real winner now?
